Blogs, Bloggers, and Blogging – Part 1

Nobody knows more about the importance of blogging than bloggers and blog  users themselves, especially if one is never a blogger or does not even have a blog at  all. Thus, it is only proper to say that bloggers themselves reserves the rightful  claim on how far and wide they have understood the word “BLOG” and its  importance.

Years ago, “blog” is still unknown to many. Yet it has been said that blogging has  been around the corner since the beginning of the internet, only that early bloggers  at that certain point in time did not really know that what they were doing would  eventually be called “BLOGGING”.

Today, blogs have become remarkable. Though the word is still not officially considered an English-International word, fact remains apparent that blog is widely recognized and has become very influential component of the online world. It has grown rapidly and mushroomed all over the globe, and even reached places you would sometime doubt that the online world would surely reach. And today, there have been millions of blogs on the internet made available to online users by bloggers themselves. Of how many blogs are there, still a question that is yet to be answered. But if I may ask, is someone still counting? Is someone still doing the math, or rather statistics?

On the other hand, Cebu Bloggers Society is evident to blogs and bloggers rapid and enormous growth. Fact is, the society was established because of this very reason wherein the idea of organizing bloggers in Cebu came in eventually, and then the rest is considered history.

Today, we decided to start noting the society’s own take on the three fundamental and comprehensive subjects mentioned above – blog, blogging and blogger. And though it may sound redundant to still “introduce” these subjects here, we would rather prefer to be redundant than to be misunderstood. We shall let our reader grasp on what we normally do, have a better information and understanding on specific topics or issues we are involved with, and define terms that may be unfamiliar to them until now.

We hope, by this simple effort from us, we would be able to serve the main purpose of this blog’s section – to understand the importance of blogs, bloggers and blogging in our society as a whole.

Great blog man! Great lay out! Good luck, hope you win in the awards! Nice too know that Cebuano has this. I hope that Bicolanos will have this kind too.

Unfortunately, I think my blog doesn’t fit any category. Nonetheless, it’s great to learn that there are a lot of Pinoy bloggers.

It is my vision that Filipinos will dominate the internet industry in two years time. If Pinoy bloggers will unite, this will be a reality.

    Good luck!

Just my opinion – Blog is short for Weblog
If i check my email on mail.yahoo.com i think it is web logging because i log-in to a web that is own by yahoo.com

    Blog is short for Weblog
Blogging is the act of logging into any website
    Blogger is the logger

So, YES blogging has been around the corner since the beginning of the internet.

But with the arrival of “personal website logging” or personal blogging where you own a subdomain in wordpress.com or blogspot.com, people start to think that the word “blogging” has changed forever.

As long as you have a log-in form online, that can still be considered as weblog or blogging.

But when you publish a page or post (even if it is considered as personal view) from a dreamweaver which is a local or desktop application and you don’t have to log-in online it can not be considered blogging.

Publishing a FACT or FAQ (page or post) on your subdomain online is NOT considered by many (bloggers) as blogging since it is not a personal view on a topic but it is indeed blogging since you are LOGGED into the web.

Today blogging is considered as a PERSONAL VIEW on a topic or issue, with that in mind you can call blogging as Pviewing.

Pview is short for Personal View
Pviewing is the act of Personal Viewing
    Pviewer is the Viewer

But how can you call this comment then? I am not logged into this website?
Can we considered my comment as a blogging? or commenting? or Pviewing?

So how can you really tell the difference between blog and View (my comment) ? Is is the number of words used since comments are small than the blog post itself ?

Am i blogging or commenting only since i am not really logged?

But if you allow me to go back to defending or reasoning things by using root words – then blogging will come clean as WEBSITE LOGGING not a personal view since my comment is also a personal view but cannot be considered as blog post.

you’ve got a point there buddy!

Blog is derived from the phrase “web log”. If I take it logically, you have to go to a website to log. However, changes happen and they always do.

From its root words, blog has a different take now. It already means a site where one can express his views, comments, etc. and posts something that may be readable or beneficial to blog visitors. Thus, blog has been accepted as something different from the typical website logging. Blog is seen as a new term coined for a certain application or practice on the Internet. Practically, it is a kind of website but it has a personal take.

And another thing, posting a comment is never considered a blog post unless the blogger opts to post a reader’s comment on his blog for a purpose. In that way, the comment may now be considered a blog post.

    Peace!

    @John Paul

It’s obvious that your comment is very long, but a comment is a comment and a blog post is a blog post.

apparently, a comment will never be considered a blog post unless you’ll post it on the web as a blog. ^^

& yes, comments are most of the time what’s inside a blog as per wikipedia “A blog is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video.”

i always think of blogging as a personal journal, a diary that is. it is free-form and just a mere expression of thoughts and insights. It is a record of whatever my mind could entertain – thus the word LOG.. Since its done in the WEB the phrase “web log” was coined. But it was later shortened to BLOG. Readers are simply annotators and reactors and their comments don’t necessarily form part of the blogger’s experience.

Aj – this is good.. thanks for the post.

A comment is totally not a blog post rather it is called a blog comment / reaction.

A blog post is done inside the admin section where the administrator have to log-in to his account while a comment is done outside where the post is already published.

Even if a comment is too long and tries to create its own personal view or direction (going against or expanding the blog post) it can not be considered a blog post since it is located under the blog post and is part of the reactions.

Comment can not change to Clog, Clogging and Clogger since the commenter is and most of the time not needed to log-in to the web.
