Pyrofest 2011: The 3rd Sinulog Fireworks Competition

Light up the skies and fill it with glitters because as Katy Perry said “…you just got to ignite the light…and let it shine…’coz baby, you’re a firework…” And what other things could you do to celebrate the night before the grandest celebration on the island?

SM City Cebu held the 3rd Sinulog Pyrofest Festival last January 15, 2011 along with eight contestants coming from different places in the Philippines representing their proud cities and provinces:

1. Delumpa Fireworks, Iloilo City
2. St. Michael Fireworks Manufacturing, Sta. Maria, Bulacan
3. Sky Glitters Enterprise Fireworks, Bulacan – won first place in the 1st Asian Sky Wizardry Pyro-musical competition at Enchanted Kingdom
4. Nation Fireworks, Sto. Niño, Baliwag, Bulacan
5. DSS Fireworks, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental -won in the 1st Sinulog Pyrofest last 2009
6. Digi Spec, Fireworks, Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental
7. Anisan Fireworks, Sibulan, Negros Oriental
8. Pyrohaven, Baliwag, Bulacan

The Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc. was invited to cover the event and to witness again one of the anticipated celebrations of the month.

Despite the heavy traffic and scattered rain showers, people didn’t bother but wait until the program started. When the drums started rolling, everybody was thrilled and others were screaming in excitement. BANG! There went the colorful, bright sparks up in the skies.

Most fireworks used during the event were rockets, fountains, and sparklers that flew up to 50 meters or higher. Spectators were amazed seeing rockets burst into a big flower-like glitter.

After the astonishing showcase of the contestants, experts of fireworks display came to show off their masterpieces. The team from PyroWorks prepared an amazing both fireworks display and musical presentation as well. Started with the tune of Dirty Bit by the BEP, lights and sparks synchronized to the beats and dramatically went with the music as it changed to a Sinulog beat, We No Speak Americano, and Fireworks by K. Perry. Well, what would you expect from the company which was a Guinness World Record Holder that fired 125,801 fireworks in 30 seconds last May 8, 2010.

A contest would never be called as one without announcing and awarding the winners. So judging from the creativity the winners were:

1st Place – DSS Fireworks, Dumaguete City (P125, 000) they also won in the 1st Sinulog Pyrofest last 2009

2nd Place – Sky Glitters Enterprise Fireworks, Bulacan (P100, 000) won first place in the 1st Asian Sky Wizardry Pyro-musical competition at Enchanted Kingdom

3rd Place – St. Michael Fireworks Manufacturing, Sta. Maria, Bulacan (80,000)

People are applauding and shouting in amazement with the fireworks display.

What would it be like for the next Pyrofest 2012? That’s one thing you need to watch out.
