Jim Paredes of Apo Hiking Society Holds Concert for a Cause with Fair Trade Advocates on May 26 at the Sto Niño Pilgrim Center 7 pm
Jim Paredes, current ambassador on fair trade in the Philippines will be the main guest performer for a benefit concert on May 26, Saturday at the Sto. Niño Pilgrim Center at 7 in the evening. This is a concert that advocates for fairness in trading and is co-sponsored by Southern Partners and Fair Trade Center, and Santo Niño Social Foundation.
The concert with the theme “In Fairness, Fair Ko… Dare to be Fair”, promotes fair trade awareness and will be featuring the talents of Jim Paredes of Apo Hiking Society, Cattski, The Wonggoys, Budoy and Fr. Jonas Mijares, OSA.
Fairness in trading is an advocacy that takes to the core the importance of producers who should benefit from their own skill, craftsmanship or manufacturing expertise. Farmers, women and fisherfolks are some of the sectors that have become partners with the Fair Trade Center here in Cebu who produce dried fruits (mangoes, among others), accessories, houseware, food preserves, home decors, fruit jams and juices, coffee, tea, herbal products and gift cards.
According to Geraldine Labradores, Executive Director of the Cebu-based Fair Trade Shop, “ it is about time that consumers become aware of where their money goes when procuring a product. While it is true that most companies think about profit these days, our advocacy on fair trade considers the producers who we believe should benefit more from their own labor.” The Fair Trade Shop launches this benefit concert to make known especially to the young generation the value of fair trade in these modern times.
Tickets are priced at P100, P200 and P500. The P500 ticket goes with a free T-shirt. Tickets are sold at the gate and at the Fair Trade Shop, located at Jones Avenue Cebu City.
