CloudCamp Cebu: Explore How Cloud Can Support Your IT Operation

CloudCamp Cebu was held on 4th of July 2012, hosted at the Marriott Hotel-Cebu. The event was free for everyone who are interested with cloud computing. As usual, apart from listening to informative presentations from the cloud implementation speakers, the participants also enjoyed networking among themselves during break-out sessions.

The idea behind cloud computing is the sharing of data with the internet serving as its network.

More than 200 attendees took part in the event to share ideas on cloud computing as a tool in protecting their data at an affordable cost.

Jojo Colina, from ArcusIT, gave a lightning talk on cloud information, the safety and security it brings in handling data. He also pointed out that security is not unilateral because of the different available infrastructure for sharing of resources.

Kevin Pratessa, ASEAN VMWare Director, also made a presentation on one advantages of using cloud that it can deliver faster recovery times than the conventional approach.

John Pabellon of Net Suite clearly emphasized that security of cloud is how each provider unique way of approaching their customers in establishing trust and high level of confidence.

The most interesting part was on the need for cloud services in the Philippine government agencies but our law prohibits doing so. It was well expounded to us by Benjie Tan of Globe Business. He also shared the need to back-up data regularly on to the cloud.

Christopher Syling from Intel supported the driven cause of joint advocacy for open standards in Cloud Computing.

The CloudCamp Cebu 2012 was just one of the few of conferences held outside the US. ArcusIT Inc., the main event organizer, also partnered with the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Cebu Education Development Foundation For Information Technology (CEDFIT), and the Junior International Chamber of Mandaue.
