Thousands of seedlings distributed by Capitol to northeast Cebu

The provincial government distributed 130 bags of corn seeds, and several thousands of vegetable seeds and seedlings to around 500 farmers located in the typhoon affected areas in the northeastern Cebu.

Governor Hilario P. Davide III said the farmers deserved help from the provincial government because of their important role in the society.
“Like the harvests in the farmlands, you are a gift to mankind,” Gov. Davide told the farmers, in a distribution ceremony held at the Tabogon municipal gym on Tuesday, March 11.

The governor said that agriculture and food security is one of the five (5) star agenda of the present administration. He reasoned that 85 percent of the population in the local government units in Cebu relies on farming and fishing.

Vice Governor Agnes Magpale further stated that in a consultative meeting, agricultural production and health programs came out as among the perennial concerns of the stakeholders.

The recipient-farmers are from the city of Danao, and the municipalities of Tabogon, Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen.

According to Provincial Agriculturist RoldanSaragena, this was part of the P6 million crop rehabilitation plan of the Capitol for the typhoon affected northern Cebu.

It may not be enough to compensate the damage that typhoon Yolanda caused to our livelihood. But the farmers were happy that the government is trying its best to answer their needs, Saragena added.

“Dili man gyudniigopara sa among garden kaydaghan man sang farmers angnanginahanglan, magpunonalang mi. Pero, at least naagyudtaynadawat, nakitanatonganagtagadgyudanggobyernoba,” said Merlita Ares, president of Barangay Kabungahan (Tabogon) Farmers Association.

Tabogon Mayor SigfredDuterte, who hosted the event, welcomed and thanked the provincial officials for the assistance.

Provincial Board Members JovenMondigo, Jr., Sun Shimura, Miguel Antonio Magpale and Jude Thaddeus Durano-Sybico were also in attendance.
