Lenovo perceives the huge market potential of Cebu for their tablet and smartphones

Lenovo continues to seize the growth opportunity offered by the vibrant Philippine smartphone and tablet market particularly outside Metro Manila. Most recently, Lenovo Philippines together with Open Communications Inc., the company’s exclusive smartphone distributor in the country, joined the annual Sinulog festivities in Cebu.

“Strengthening our brand presence in Cebu is part of Lenovo’s Attack strategy to help propel us to become the leader in the PC Plus era,” according to Michael Ngan, Country General Manager of Lenovo Philippines.

According to the National Statistics Office (NSO), Cebu’s population has increased by almost half a million from 2000 to 2010, an increase rate of 1.94 percent annually. Metro Cebu is now the second most populous Metropolitan in the country, following Metro Manila. One of the major reasons for the increase in population size is due to the fact that the business sector, particularly in manufacturing, real estate and BPO services, is slowly diverting its attention to Metro Cebu for more investments. This growth in population may also be attributed to the booming tourism of the province. The city of Cebu has also been known as an important area of commerce, trade and education in the Visayas region.

The Sinulog is a yearly religious festival in Cebu held every third Sunday of January to honor the miraculous Sto. Niño, representing the pagan origin of the Filipinos and their acceptance of Roman Catholicism. Sinulog literally means the current of the water (sulog) in the Pahina River but actually means the dance that devotees perform moving two steps forward and one step back.

This year, Lenovo joined the annual grand parade which culminates the Sinulog Festival. In addition, Lenovo also recently opened their first concept store dedicated to their smartphones and tablets at the 3rd level of Ayala Center, Cebu, extending their smart connected device portfolio to the larger population in the Philippines.

In addition, Lenovo launched their latest premium smartphone in Cebu, the Lenovo Vibe X which is remarkably thin at 6.9mm, just as thin as a pencil and light weighing at just 121 grams (0.26 lbs), about the weight of five AA batteries. Users can capture great-looking photos and videos with its two advanced cameras –  5 megapixels front camera with a wide angle 84° lens and 13MP auto-focus rear camera with LED flash and back illuminated sensor. It is engineered with the latest Android™ 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system that runs on a Quad-Core MTK 6589T 1.5GHz processor to drive optimum performance.
